2014 Syrah 'Vivio Vyd' Bennett Valley, Sonoma
The Vivio vineyard is the one of the coolest in Bennett Valley, in southern Sonoma. Volcanic red soil.
30% 1 year old French oak, 70% Neutral French oak barrel. 25% Whole Cluster. Bottled in 2016. -- 20 months.
On the nose. A lot of spice, darker fruit, spicy fig compote, Indian blood peach, stone fruits, lots of wet slate. Mouth is tight and structured, elegant, lots of fruit up front, ripe black currant, cassis. More white pepper than black pepper. Long and savory finish with tobacco.
Pair with Ethiopian goat curry, a rare tomahawk chop, south American steak with churasco/chimi-churri stuff.

Such a complex and commanding wine. It teems with blackberry and fig notes, dry but with core dark fruit. It’s a well-made wine, balancing beautiful splashes of French oak notes alongside pepper & spice. I paired this with a smoked, coffee-rubbed pork tenderloin with a sriracha-bbq sauce and jalapeño beans. A perfect combination.
